This month I would like to talk with you about crowdfunding and what it can do for individuals and companies, sometimes even for a whole country, more about this later.
The definition of crowdfunding as Investopedia gives it:
Crowdfunding is the use of small amounts of capital from a large number of individuals to finance a new business venture. Crowdfunding makes use of the easy accessibility of vast networks of people through social media and crowdfunding websites to bring investors and entrepreneurs together and has the potential to increase entrepreneurship by expanding the pool of investors from whom funds can be raised beyond the traditional circle of owners, relatives and venture capitalists.
In my opinion crowdfunding makes it possible for people who don’t have a big capital, to start a business venture. Besides that, it is a way for the ‘normal people’ to invest a small amount of capital. It is a great new way to bring new opportunities in our society. Online there are already many websites on ‘what is crowdfunding?’ and ‘top 10 tips to start crowdfunding’. I would like to focus on the bigger picture here, what crowdfunding can do for our society.
Since crowdfunding is going on for a while now but the important question is: how is it already changing our society? I think one of the most important things is that more and more people are realizing the alternative ways to make money. People realize that having a traditional job will not be sufficient anymore in the future.
Here can you read the Top 10 crowdfunding success stories in Europe.
Yesterday I saw a nice article on BBC News, you can find it here: Malaysians crowdfund to help cut national debt. It is amazing how our new technologies can help us create better things for each other. If you read the article you can see how willing people are to help each other. There is still a percentage of people that thinks and takes care of themselves, however, there are many people who love to share and be better together.
Crowdfunding can not only start a company, but also it can bring a whole country together. I think it is important that we share what we have with the people who are less fortunate so that they get the opportunity to create amazing things for our society.
